Normal is a bad word

Sometimes i would stim at school (we've already talked about stims) and then, the therapist or my parents would tell me to appear more "normal"... NOW I KNOW THAT WAS A REALLY GARBAGE TAKE... WHAT'S NORMAL ANYWAYS? FOR ME... NORMAL IS A BAD WORD.  Normal, is, first thing first, A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT. For many Indigenous communities around the world, going topless was normal, even if you were a woman. That is, until colonizers came. But the colonizers are to blame, not Indigenous people. What i'm saying is: There's no exact definition of what exactly constitutes "normalcy".  Of course, the concept of "normalcy" is not just racist: It is VERY, VERY ABLEIST. Let's say you stim: People will tell you off, asking you to act "normal". But these people never wonder why you stim(we've talked about that before), and therefore, think it just has to be a bad thing, because they haven't ever seen it. And it's ok. Through evolutio

Enough, apologize with Entrapta

We've talked about how She-Ra gives us hope, about how Catra is a victim of multiple abuse...  Now, we'll talk abou that princess who redeemed an intergalactic conqueror with her love... That princess who, behin her ethically grey actions, hid a great desire of being apreciated with all and her diferences... Yes... Today, we'll talk about our dear Entrapta. I think she's the best Autistic rep until now. They even got an Autistic writer for her.  She is a somewhat lonely girl, a tech lover, but... she isn't that good with people.  And that's when Hordak comes along. He also feels like a failure, knowing he'll be euthanized becausae of his nerve damage. She's the first to understand what he feels like, BECAUSE SHE'S BEEN TREATED LIKE THAT. I MEAN, THEY PUT HER ON A LEASH. That's how they develop a relationship, between two souls sharing Ableist Discrimination and love for tech.  Many raise eyebrows at this relationship. They think: How could a wom

Oops! I didn't again: Autism and Executive functioning

Haven't you ever been chilling on the couch all day, and suddenly you remember: NOOO I GOTTA WASH MY CLOTHES... Sounds "UGHHH", doesn't it? Specially when you're mentally ill and always tired, like Mermista (we'll talk about her ableist views in a minute).  [Image description: Mermista puts her hands in her forehead, closes her eyes and says "Ugh!"] Why does this happen? Because a thing so small... CAN BE QUITE OVERWHELMING! We see tiny steps such as "getting to laundry room" and "putting clothes in"... IT'S TOO MUCH!! So yeah, that's why we don't do it. LAZINESS DOESN'T EXIST, AND YOU CAN FIND MORE INFO HERE:  https://latinaautisticentrapta.tumblr.com/post/635674422482731008/lovelyssthefish-lilcowgirl7-laziness-does-not As you can see, Depression makes things even more impossible, the same with Chronic Illness and Autism (which makes information hard to filter, which then, causes that horrible, overwhelming sensor

Stim Queen: What The Hell is a Stim?

I roleplay as Entrapta... Intimacy is a key part of my role, as I try to portray, along with the guy who plays Hordak (don't worry, he is paying for his actions), an empowered Disabled couple (Again, Autism IS a Disability) who tries to show Etherians Disabled people CAN and WILL have intimate times (and NO inmate times) (Intimacy is a topic for later). Even in that kind of roleplay, i stim. I make noises, i handflap, move my head... I've never been intimate in real life, but I feel of course i would stim during those practices. I always do it when I have my food cravings fulfilled, so, why not stim when i fulfill other cravings? But hey, What the Hell is a stim? Well, they are those  tiny actions that EVERYONE, mostly Autistics, ADHDers and Anxious people do EVERYTIME. Again. and Again. and Again. It can be listening to the same song, everyday, under the same circunstances (ex: listening to Bon Jovi's "Story of My Life" EVERYTIME YOU DO HOMEWORK), or moving your

Are there more Disabled people on Etheria?

We've already talked about Entrapta, about her being Autistic, and about her relationship with Hordak, who've we've talked about has Chronic Pain. Now, are there more Disabled People in Etheria? The answer is YES, let's see it step by step.  *Many amputees think Scorpia is a good allegory of this Disability, because of the way her claws interact with the world. Per se, the character has motor problems which dyspraxia could help explain, and even has a not-so-typícal train of thought. *Octavia and someone in Huntara's gang both have just one eye. *One of the Starlight siblings is an amputee, they're not Etherian though.  *Sea Hawk presents many ADHD signs. *Beautiful Catra presents the 9 key signs of BPD. It's implied that Melog acts like the Catgirl's service dog. *Adora has been labeled as having ADHD or OCD. *Rogelioo, the Horde's lizard boy, doesn't speak in an Understandable way. Bad news though: Only Lonnie and Kyle understand him, he isn

Hordak: Pain And Freedom

I've talked about Catra, and Entrapta, will possibly soon talk about Glimmer, Adora or Mara... But today, i'll talk about the flawed clone who cleansed civilizations, in an effort to cleanse his own imperfection, which would later make his life more beautiful. Yes, we'll talk about Hordak. Many fans hate the character. The creator, Noelle Stevenson, confirmed he was a colonizer, and that's why I BELIEVE FANS HAVE THE RIGHT TO HATE HIM. Many also point out how much he mistreated Catra and the other cadets, and Princesses, and add that Hordak yelled at Entrapta more than once. HONESTLY, I BELIEVE IT'S ONE OF THE BEST CRITIQUES YOU CAN MAKE ABOUT THE CHARACTER, I JUST CAN'T DENY IT. Now, my opinion, which could be a bit "yikes" inducing: Who is Hordak? Well, to me, he is, with no doubt, A CRIMINAL. But, I repeat, HE TREATED ENTRAPTA THE MOST TENDER WAY SHE HAD EXPERIMENTED IN A LONG TIME, AND, VICEVERSA, ENTRAPTA HELPED HIM WITH HIS EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS. S

Hordak: Libertad y dolor

Catra: How abuse changes us... Can it happen to someone Autistic?

Trigger Warning: abuse, rape, suicide, genocide,  homicide, war, abandonment, torture, betrayal, death, kidnapping... and a whole bunch of spoiler.  As you may have been able to tell, i'm a huge SPOP fan (Yes, I'm the one asking for the movie). And i have to say i'm quite amused by this reboot of the 80's serie, because it deals with topics like  trauma, abuse, war crimes,  and other complex topics which 7 years old (youngest ones who can watch the show)  wouldn't get, or analize. In the nlast article, i talked about the show and hope... Hope for  Disabled and LGBT+ People...  Now, hardly, we have to look atn the other side of the coin... IT SHOWS STORIES ABOUT ABUSE, TRAUMA, AND EVEN SUBTLE SUICIDAL/GENOCIDAL/HOMICIDAL TENDENCIES.  Today we'll talk abou the series most complex and changing character, which makes us cry, laugh, and get angry, the one who hides her vulnerability with menacing gestures, who hides fear, and sorrow...  And she's only a college-

This cartoon changed my life

It was pride month. I was afraid of celebrating with my parents, who are just starting to question what they know about love and the various ways it may present itself. Online, they told me "watch  She-Ra and the Princesses of Power". I had nothing to lose. There was Entrapta, canonically Autistic, and, if i din't like it, i still had to catch up with Supergirl.  So I watched it. IT WAS FASCINATING. I had seen the old version with my parents, they had some casettes which i used to watch when i was sick, as a child. Now, as a woman, I'm fascinated by this version. From the beautiful scenaries, to the different personalities, body types and ethnicities, to the precious lesson Entrapta shows Disabled kids when telling Hordak "Your imperfections are beautiful", I LOVED EVERY SECOND. Sadly, the serie ended... WITH A KISS. CATRADORA WAS CANON. AND IT GIVES ME HOPE. It's possible that, even if it wasn't Noelle's intention, she made Adora Autistic too.

I'm not here to inspire you

Once there was a talent show at my school. Many "friends" asked me to participate. Wondering the talent i could have, i decided to ask them why they were so interested in my partaking. They answered it was "so people could know people like me can overcome their problems". I know what they were referring to. Social media floods us with stories about people "overcoming disability". As if it was a task, in which luck determines the winner. And it does happen like that, but it's not good. Unfortunately, the world is not accesible for many of us, and there are many things that interfere with a Disabled Person's triumph: economy, contacts, geographic zone, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, other disabilities, even PHYSICAL APPEAREANCE INTERFERES. sharing a video about -----, who is ----- and achieved------, is actually a case of someone who IS LUCKY. And i say it as someone who is non-superstitous. Many times, we won't achieve what the person

Siendo mujer, siendo Autista

MUM: YOU AREN'T YOUR CHILD'S VOICE

I've got an ONLY AUTISTICS group. NTS CAN'T ENTER.  Still, daily, there are parents desperate to enter. I've had to reject them. They say "my child/ granchild is Autistic" or "The neighbour has an Autistic kid". They say they want the best for the child.  BUT, WHEN THEY ENTER, WE SEE IT'S NOT LIKE THAT.  *They tell us which symbols and language to use (curiously, they´re the ones the Autistic Community HATES THE MOST) *They say their child (or their known one's) "isn't like us"... Then, THEY START MENTIONING ABOUT THE LITTLE ONE'S BOWEL MOVEMENTS (and they never talk if their puppies have worms)... EVEN WITHOUT KNOWING WHO WE ARE, OR WHICH PROBLEMS WE FACE. THEY JUST SEE OUR ONLINE-FACES. *         THEY CENSOR OUR DIFFERENT OPINIONS, CALLING US NASTY, SASSY AND MEAN. *THEY´RE HOMOPHOBIC, SEXIST, ISLAMOPHOBIC, ABLEIST (of course) OR OTHERWISE BIGOTED.  And most nauseus part... THEY SAY TO BE THEIR CHILDREN'S VOICES. THEY AREN

spoons & batteries

Sometimes i wake up with that terrible backache...Those that appear when i can't sleep at night. I don't have energy, but the pain keeps me from sleeping.  My mum tells me to clean my room. I tell her i'm out of spoons. She doesn't understand. But, what are spoons, in this case? Basically, it's something coined by Christine Miserandino, a waitress with lupus, who had the idea to illustrate, via (first encountered, literally) physical objects, the energy loss that chronically ill people face day by day. Still, some, because of the complex theory, prefer to explain it via battery. But spoons are more popular within each passing day. Not only chronically ill people lose spoons quickly. Mentally ill people do too, specially if their mood gets low because of some reason.  i'll show you a day in my life. Firstly, i have 30 spoons. It's a terrific day, one that i hardly ever have. Almost a miracle. 1.- i wake up. Let's suppose it's Saturday. I habe to choos

More problems with Locuocentrism

There are Autistics who hurt themselves... Desperate mothers, put them through abusive therapies, which i've talked about here, and this is counterproducent.  Truth is, this people have the need to communicate, as with any human being. Maybe they won't be able to communicate through speech, but, as i've said, AAC devices can quite help. so, again, we have to understand: SPEAKING IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO COMMUNICATE. Why, then, is it presented as the only option? BECAUSE OF ORALISM, OR, AS I CALL OT, LOCUOCENTRISM. It's simply a bad case of "mayority phallacy": The mayority talks, so it's the only thing that's acceptable. But, no. Our ancestors communicated through noise, drawings, and gestures. Modern day apes use this tools also (except a few that were taught Sign Language by scientists) . Same happens with children who, like the mythical Tarzan (they DO exist), where brought up by animals... Even in Cirque Du Soleil, they talk Cirquish, a language only

Speaking is Not The Only way To Communicate

I speak. But, sometimes, if i am too tired, sad, jaded, or in pain, words won't come from outside my mouth. Soemtimes i only can draw or put GIFS, because i can't even type... I don't think in words anymore! I also know a bit of my country's Sign Language. These are all valid forms of communication, and many Autistics use them. they fall into the AAC (Augmentative-Alternative Communication) umbrella. Watch Out: They're not the same. Alternative is when it's your main method of communication, while Augmentative is for cases like mne, in which, even with a great oral language, there are cases when you need to be more resourceful. Alternatives that differ from those already mentioned are text to speech, PECS,  answer "Yes" and "No" Buttons,  echolalia (repeating what someone just said, although with slight changes, or phrases from media), Methods of eye movements, Rapid Prompting Method (letterboards) and Facilitated Communication (ehich uses em
