Autism isn't an accesory... I don't "have autism"

They make polls. MANY OF THEM.

Autistic, or Person with Autism?
The majority of the community prefers the first one.

You may say "It's only syntaxis!", and it may look like it is, but, in the community, saying we're Autistic is much more than that.

For the community, it means growing pride. Symbol of the full acceptance of our neurotype, even with the challenges this, or other commorbilities, may carry.

It's the symbol that means that we DON't want a cure, we just want acceptance. Symbol of wanting society to acommodate for us, because, indeed, we can't do all alone.

You could say "Autism doesn't define you!"But, truth is, why wouldn't it?
Everything I do, I do it as an Autistic.

I wake up Autistic
I sleep as Autistic
I eat as an Autistic
I shower as an Autistic
I watch my favourite movies as an Autistic
I cosplay (I do it, and i Love it) as an Autistic
My work  is done the Autistic way

You don't call a Jewish person "Person with Judaism". You don't call a teacher "Person with a degree in education".  We know those characteristics are important to them. We know their life may not be the same without that certain characteristic. And, pretty surely, they feel proud about it.

Why, then, can't we Autistics talk that way about our condition? Why is our right to identity taken away? Why is it denied and stolen from us?

Blind people refer to themselvs like that (identity first) with pride.
Deaf people refer to themselves like that with pride.

We are proud of being Autistic! Even capital "A" is for pride.

So, we're Autistic, unless the person states otherwise.

15 Reasons to NOT support Autism $peaks.

Well... this post is important… I know it will be highly polemical… But it's necessary. And now that i've got the spoons (we'll talk about it later) to tell it, i will. Unfrtunately for the big mayority of the Autistic Community, Autism $peaks is the greatest Autism Charity in the USA. MOST OF US HATE THIS "CHARITY". And here are a few reasons you should NEVER support them. 1. They show Autistic kids as burdens to their families, as "ghosts" and other REALLY STIGMATIZING analogies. No kid deserves that kind of rethoric (they have even described us as monsters). Even non-vocalizing or COMORBIDLY intellectually disabled Autistics are people and JUST BECAUSE OF THAT deserve as much respect as EVERYONE ELSE. 2. They use functioning labels. Simply, FUNCTIONING LABELS DON'T WORK. Due to them, "low functioning" individuals (commonly those who are non-vocalizing or depend on someone due to COMORBITIES)  are pitied, while "high-functionin
