Enough with functioning labels...

Many times, in many pages, i encounter those famous "Autism Moms",  praising the articles found there. They say "they helped them to understand their child with severe autism" To those moms i say... Meh.

There's so much to say about them...

I congratulate them on not thinking they're their children's voice.  (WRITTEN, MAY TRANSLATE)

But there are two things i won't congratulate them on: (aside from using their children's disability in their profiles without the child's consent, telling and recording everything about them, again, without consent,  majoritarily, and using blue and puzzle pieces)

1.-  The Autistic Community prefers being called like this and not "with autism"... I'v talked about it, may translate.

2.-  "Severe" and "mild" autism ARE LIES.

As you heard it... ABLEIST LIES. Based on arbitrary and obsolete concepts.

1.- Independence. WE WON'T ALL BE INDEPENDENT. AND THAT'S VALID. Jessica Kellgren-Fozard (who i've talked about in my "30 Disabled People You Should Know" article) ISN'T independent, she has her wife Claudia, her Personal Assistant Clara, and her puppies. Gem (she also is in the article) has her husband and her children. They are happy togheter, and the same can happen to your child.

2.- Talent: Now, TALENT'S RELATIVE. Acting can be a talent, but so can be researching. The fact that the capitalistic society pays more attention to some talents than others, is a horse from another colour (a sad, ableist colour). Your child's talent's there, you just have to discover what it is.

3.- Social Skills. AND THIS IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT. While some cultures, for example, the Chinese, find it good to burp after eating, others, like the English, find it disgusting. YOU SHOULDN'T CARE ABOUT WHAT'S SAID ABOUT YOUR CHILD AS LONG AS YOUR CHILD IS FREE!

4.- Executive Functioning. I DON'T HAVE EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING... AM I STILL "HIGH FUNCIONING" TO YOU? INDEED, I CAN'T BUILD UP A ROUTINE... BUT IN THAT "GRAY AREA", I CAN'T SKIP OUT OF MY HALF-BAKED ONE.  I want to be at home, even without knowing exactly what i'll do there. That's me.

5.- Self-injury: I've done it, for (non) suicidal reasons. Sometimes i don't even know why. Do i still look "high functioning" to you?

6.- Speaking. Some Deaf people don't use their voice. Speaking is overrated.

7.-  Needing academic acommodations. I need menatl-health supports... Do I still look "high functioning" to you?

After all of this...
Am I still high-functioning to you?

If so... I invite you to see my articles about suicide.

It could happen to your child. Don't allow it.

ENOUGH with functioning labels.

15 Reasons to NOT support Autism $peaks.

Well... this post is important… I know it will be highly polemical… But it's necessary. And now that i've got the spoons (we'll talk about it later) to tell it, i will. Unfrtunately for the big mayority of the Autistic Community, Autism $peaks is the greatest Autism Charity in the USA. MOST OF US HATE THIS "CHARITY". And here are a few reasons you should NEVER support them. 1. They show Autistic kids as burdens to their families, as "ghosts" and other REALLY STIGMATIZING analogies. No kid deserves that kind of rethoric (they have even described us as monsters). Even non-vocalizing or COMORBIDLY intellectually disabled Autistics are people and JUST BECAUSE OF THAT deserve as much respect as EVERYONE ELSE. 2. They use functioning labels. Simply, FUNCTIONING LABELS DON'T WORK. Due to them, "low functioning" individuals (commonly those who are non-vocalizing or depend on someone due to COMORBITIES)  are pitied, while "high-functionin
